 ב כתבה בואלה הועלתה הטענה שהתחרותיות הנמוכה בליגת הNBA היום בצל הדומיננטיות של הקליבלנד קאבאלירס והגולדן סטייט ווריורס, מזכירה את שנות ה-80 והשליטה הדומיננטית של הלייקרס והסלטיקס, שחילקו ביניהן בעשור ההוא 8 אליפויות.  ההשוואה  הזו מאוד בעייתית בעיניי משני היבטים: 1) הלייקרס והסלטיקס הפגינו דומיננטיות לאורך תקופה ארוכה. כרגע הקאבס והווריורס מפגינים דומיננטיות זו השנה השלישית. עוד מוקדם לומר אם מדובר בתופעה זמנית של שתי קבוצות בולטות לעומת הליגה (דבר שכבר נראה בעבר במידה מסויימת) או בהשתלטות קבועה (דבר שאין לו תקדים בליגה, בכל הנוגע לעונה הסדירה, או להופעות חד צדדיות בפלייאוף).  2) השני והחשוב יותר - סוג הדומיננטיות המוחלטת של הקאבס והווריורס מאוד שונה מסוג הדומיננטיות שהפגינו הלייקרס והסלטיקס בשנות ה-80. באותו עשור, בפרקים שונים בו, נראו לפחות 3 קבוצות נוספות שהפגינו תחרותיות ומשחק ברמה שווה לזו של הלייקרס והסלטיקס: יוסטון, פילדלפיה, דטרויט.   לא מאמינים ? תבדקו כמה פעמים הסלטיקס ו/או הלייקרס בכלל לא הגיעו לגמר בגלל שאחת היריבות שלהן עמדה בדרכן.  1980 -  גמר בין הפילדלפיה 76 ללוס אנג&#
